What to look for in an Airbnb duvet cover
Firmness that suits strangers. You are buying for a rotating cast of unknown backs. Medium-firm (6-7 on most scales) draws the fewest complaints across body types, which is why hotels standardize on it. Plush and extra-firm mattresses each delight a minority and generate reviews from everyone else.
Foam density over thickness. A 10-12 inch mattress with high-density foam outlasts a taller bargain build. In a rental doing 60%+ occupancy, a cheap mattress develops body impressions inside 18 months — and 'bed was uncomfortable' is one of the most common phrases in negative Airbnb reviews.
Bed-in-a-box logistics. Compressed shipping matters more than it does at home: you may be furnishing up a flight of cabin stairs, replacing on short notice between bookings, or shipping to a market you don't live in.
How many do you need?
One per sleeping surface, and match sizes across rooms where you can. For a typical 3-bedroom that sleeps 8, that's usually one king or queen in the primary, queens in the others, and a sleeper sofa or bunk handling the overflow — run your exact layout through the furnishing calculator for the full count.
Care and replacement
Always pair with a waterproof protector from day one — it is the difference between a $35 replacement and a $400 one. Rotate the mattress quarterly and inspect during deep cleans.
